This house located on Mtatsminda is a place with a historical significance, as Ilia Chavchavadze himself lived here in 1885-1888 and the editorial office of “Iveria” was located on the first floor. Given the antiquity of the space, it turned out to be quite difficult to make significant changes during the project.
The living space consists of two apartments. The client wanted the living area to be preserved in its original state, and the added space – a bedroom, a study and a bathroom – to become an organic part of the living area. Accordingly, only cosmetic work was carried out in the living area, the old wooden doors and windows were replaced with updated models of the same wooden material. The fireplace also retained its original appearance. Certain changes were made to the added space of the apartment – the wall separating the two rooms was removed and the bathroom was redesigned.
As a result of the planning, the apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a large veranda and a historic balcony, which is decorated with beautiful old twisted columns and emphasizes its original appearance.
It is worth noting that despite the historical purpose of the house, the apartment did not have any old ceilings, walls or floors. Therefore, the main emphasis in the space was placed on furniture, chandeliers, textiles and accessories. The design mainly uses beige, light khaki tones, striped textiles, colorful accents, natural greenery and, most importantly, the works of Georgian artists – Elene Akhvlediani, Lado Gudiashvili, Merab Abramishvili, Davit Kakabadze, Irakli Parjiani and Petre Otskheli.
The light beige walls of the living room are harmoniously matched by the light wooden parquet, which is decorated with colorful rugs and adds coziness to the house. In the sitting area, there is a comfortable white sofa and a small round table decorated with wooden elements.
The color is brought in by the pink-toned “Bonaldo” brand dining table and orange leather chairs, adding freshness and attractiveness to the room. The old fireplace is used as a place to store books and accessories. Interesting accents are made with golden cornices that organically blend with light-colored curtains.
Another distinctive design element is the green handmade chandelier, which perfectly matches the abundant natural greenery. The room is given an individual character with paintings and accessories that decorate the entire space.
The kitchen is quite distinctive. The light khaki furniture naturally matches the attractively designed wallpaper and creates a pleasant atmosphere. Here, too, wooden furniture and golden details are of great importance, emphasizing the integrity of the interior.
The bedroom is colorful and cozy. The main emphasis is placed on the striped bed in red and pink tones, which enlivens the room and accentuates its individual character. An elegant touch is also added by the golden mirror, which is a decorative element of the classic style. The bedroom also features a wardrobe area with a characteristic design, which completes the interior and makes it more interesting.
The study is a semi-open, which is an extension of the bedroom. The room is decorated with a large old-style desk, a light khaki wardrobe and an orange leather chair, which complements the curtains of the same color. The curtains were created by my own design, which is an important element in the overall design of the space. The room has a modern and ancient aesthetic at the same time, which makes this area a unique space.
One of the special rooms in the house is the exotic-style bathroom, which is decorated with black and white tiles and light khaki paint. I think the main charm is created by the large stained glass windows, which are also designed by me and decorated with linen curtains. The khaki walls are harmoniously complemented by natural plants, which further enhances the exotic feeling.
In this house, historical space and modern design merge and create a cozy, warm and comfortable living environment for the owners.
