My spouse and I purchased the land for our future two-story house around 15 years ago in Kaklebi, at a time when development in the area had not yet commenced. We were immediately captivated by the stunning panoramic views overlooking the entire city. The construction process faced delays, and it took us 15 years to complete the house. During these years, we spent considerable time contemplating our home, developing countless plans, and living through each of these designs in our imagination. As a result, we had a clear understanding of our likes and dislikes, as well as what aspects needed our focus. In the process of shaping our ideas, we received invaluable assistance from my husband’s mother, architect Marika Tsagareli, who provided us with several architectural designs. Initially, our concept was centered around a one-story house accompanied by a yard.
Due to the relief of the land, the house ended up being designed with two stories. We decided to elevate the living quarters to the upper floor to ensure an unobstructed view. Our architect and we prefer to avoid corridors and closed-off spaces, aiming for the interior to be as open, bright and transparent as possible. However, we’ve also integrated options for more isolation, particularly in the bedroom areas. Drawing from years of observation that people naturally gravitate towards the kitchen regardless of its size, we designed a spacious kitchen. This area also encompasses the dining room, featuring comfortable seating and a television. The design aspect was handled by my husband and me.
When designing our home, we didn’t adhere to any specific trend, resulting in what I would describe as a modern classic style. The interior prominently features paintings by my daughter, Elene Chiaureli, alongside pieces from my own collection. You might have noticed my fondness for plants throughout the house. We chose natural materials for our furniture, including a hundred-year-old oak for the entrance door and a two-hundred-year-old oak for the kitchen. This home has become my sanctuary, a place that has deepened my love for spending time at home. No matter where I am, I find myself eager to return. It has also become a beloved gathering spot for friends and family, who all enjoy spending time here. I take great joy in hosting them. My home is “my space” – the ideal setting for both social gatherings and moments of solitude.
