LIFESTYLE IN THE INTERIOR - HOUSE OF NUTSA GAMTSEMLIDZE IN TBILISI

Interieri Magazine

Due to my character, I avoided getting help from a designer. I knew that I would neither be able to explain what I wanted nor refuse what they suggested. I gathered everything I had in my mind from books or spaces where I had been and felt comfortable. I imagined all of it, and tried to transform it into reality.

Our lifestyle indicated to me and my husband Vaniko Tarkhnishvili how we should have designed our home. For example, we have been collecting books for a while, which required quite some space. We needed enough space for children’s toys, we also wanted to have a separate corner for our favorite drinks, etc. Following this principle, we adapted the house to ourselves and not the other way around. In the end, we ended up with one open space with separate bedrooms. Although it is true that I later on realized that when there is a child at home, such an arrangement comes with challenges, still to this day I like this arrangement the most and have no regrets. I think that the open space is more forgiving of clutter and chaos. In such apartments, a bit of messiness is less noticeable, and at times even befitting.

I don’t consider the house finished. The feeling of being in the process of creating something is a good motivation. I constantly collect ideas be it in books and magazines or the spaces I visit. This process has become a very pleasant part of my life, so why should I stop? That’s why I left the doors open and I like it very much.

The furniture I partially bought. The part that is in my kid’s room is from my childhood. Some things I ordered from my handyman, as he is the only person who understands what I explain to him. Generally, the end result is probably never what we imagine in the beginning (or maybe it is for some people, but I am referring to myself), however I can say one thing: the house turned out in such a way that I fell in love with it.
